Brief
During the London Olympics in 2012, I was asked to create artwork for a client who was enthralled by the patriotic atmosphere in the country at the time. They wanted a canvas that captured the jubilant public mood, as well as highlighting the huge success Team GB had during the two weeks.
As a result I created this artwork that was focused on the Olympic flame – a unique and symbolic structure, and created a ‘flame’ using the British flag. Above the flame, I created ‘smoke’ that was composed of 29 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze coloured geometric, angular shapes – a reference to the number of medals the team won.
